So I went and modified the icon pack. Again. Imagemagick just destroyed the everythings, and I added the icons I created in the meantime.

First, the good news: That's 650+ icons for all your gaming needs now: linux, dosbox, scummvm, console games, even a few browser games.

Now the bad news: Dropbox is still very limited and my calls for storage space "donations" have remained widely unanswered. So I had the choice: either I gave up or I cut on space requirements.

Hint: I'm not one to give up.

Now for ranting. Either my readers are as incredible dicks as I am, or they're all windows users and don't give a fuck. Or they're just pro-league couch potatoes. I couldn't care less. The fact is: only one person made a donation, and that's just 500Mb of storage space.

I don't care if it's a matter of having the wrong distros supported, or even "not enough" distros. That's the way it will be unless a few people deem it worthy to click on the referrer link to open a Dropbox account and expand my own. Because I still have my personal stuff to back up. And it's waited long enough. ;)

So until something happens, I have to cut back on Linux, Mac and Windows support. How? Easy enough. I'll still be using Faenza so it still fits in the set. I'm still doing Arch-specific icons for my personal use, and everyone gets a generic Linux set with the Faenza POL icon. You a Windows or Mac user? Want a distro-specific set?

Fine. If you want more, then help me help you. Easy as that. All it would take for everyone to be happy is a dozen "donators". I'm not even kidding. I've had ONE so far (and you have my thanks, MrIlyas. Drop a comment or contact me if you want a specific set, I'll send it one way or another). Call your friends and/or "donate", and you'll get whatever you want, just leave me a comment with your distro/OS or pass it along. If space is expanded, I'll upload it all ASAP. I may even go out of my way to add distros that weren't supported until now. Even if they're distros with just 3 users. All I need and want is space. I'm even going to make it easy for you. Now for more detailed statistics.

• 5 browser games (that's one less, Bastion has native binaries, huzzahs and stuff);
• 169 DOSBox games for GOG lovers and more;
• 35 console games for BSNES lovers and more;
• 65 ScummVM games for GOG lovers and more;
• 377 Linux games for all the penguins out there. With a few updated. Just because;
• The xcf is still there, and unmodified. So ImageMagick nerds will have no problems modifying the set. May kill the purpose, but shows I'm not a complete dick. ;)

It's a much less impressive update. It's a drawback. But hey. I can't spend my entire life creating icons, and I can't afford a 120Tb online storage. :p

It's one hell of a long series of posts, isn't it? Don't worry, this is the last one - for now. I said I would make packs for every OS/distro supported. I did. And given it wouldn't be reasonable to post the list of links, I'll just let you have your way with the public folder, which contains reasonably named archives, as well as the xcf. If you can't figure it out: download the archive bearing the name of your distro/OS or anything even remotely resembling it, as well as web, scumm, dos and emu (.tar.bz2 for linux, .zip for the others) if you're into that kind of things. If you feel like making your own, download the xcf, too. That's it.

I'll also throw a humble request in here. I'm not paid for this, I'm not even open for donations, but you can help me. See, it takes a HUGE portion of my storage space. Which is about completely used after this upload (it adds up to (roughly) 1.5Gb out of 2Gb - which is about all I have once my (meagre) backups are out of the way). So if you download those icons and like them, help me regain a bit of space by opening a (free) Dropbox account using this link: http://db.tt/Y3wXt7Fc (I promise you it's not malicious. If you don't believe me, there are un-shorteners out there). You'll get a bit of space, and I'll get a bit of breathing room, which in turn would allow me to upload updates (as well as my personal backups if there are enough "donations") and stuff - a generic linux version for example, could be useful for those not using one of the supported distros. MOAR. Again. Icons update 2.

102 icons. Two replacements. Total number of icons/games after merging the three packs (newcomers see the other posts - or scroll down to the very bottom of this post - to find the original pack and the first update): 500/500. That's what I'd call a win. (note: you could count them as being 497 - if you don't take the Desura, Dosbox and ScummVM icons as legit. But that would be mean. :D)

Didn't have to cope with dubious material this time. Had to cope with LACK of material. There are quite a few games out there that went full digital, have no nice artwork, and so on. So... yeah, once again, there are a few icons in this pack that aren't up to par with the rest. Still, a so-so icon is better than no icon at all, and I never said I was a wizard.

Also, there's a bunch of retro games in there. Casual gamers and newbies beware.

Guess I'll take a small, much deserved break from icon-making now, and maybe rehash the pack for various distros/OS and stuff if I feel like it. The interwebs are full of slackers after all. ;)

Oh, and the icons STILL look best in 256x256 or 128x128. But it's your life after all.

PS: It's NOT the end of this stupid project. There are still loads of orphan games out there waiting for an icon to be made, and tons of dosbox, scummvm and console games too... It's just a "have I seriously been grinding 700+ icons (two batches with different layouts were scratched) in less than a month?" kind of break. ;)

Next time someone tells me you got nothing to play under GNU/Linux imma buy a 3D printer and force the icons down his throat.

That's a hundred more, people. Bringing us to 400 icons, 399 games (replacement for SpaceChem), and a huge majority of them are native GNU/Linux games.

End of beta. The massive icon archive.

And so it was that the milestone of 300 games was reached, that all alt icons were purged (there are still a few alt arts which will probably disappear a bit later) and that every game had an icon and every icon was for a different game.

Amen. (clicky for list of games, this is getting slightly too ridiculous to be posted again).

Here's a quick & dirty preview. The previous posts still show some of the icons in a more... reasonable size.

All icons are still easy to customize for your own distro/OS. The xcf is still included. It's still as fun to do, and a little bit easier now. The icons still look best in 128x128 or 256x256 if you ask me.

Feel free to share this thing as much as you want. Just don't take credit for it. Even I don't - the arts aren't mine after all, all I did was make icons out of them the best I could (which is still quite bad when the source material wasn't up to par).
